Open Rank Clinical Professor/Discipline Director, Internal Medicine

Ohio University is a large, ~23,000 student university committed to excellence in teaching, research and public service, with a rapidly growing health sciences research community. The main campus is located in Athens, Ohio and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine has expanded by developing extension campuses in Dublin, Ohio and Cleveland, Ohio, and by partnering with prominent academic health organizations. During this time of unprecedented growth, based in part on a recent $105 million grant from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations and a significant increase in federal funding, the college seeks Discipline Director, Internal Medicine, to serve as content expert and contributing developer of the discipline- specific clinical curricular content for Heritage College medical students in Years 1 through 4, with emphasis on the clinical years of 3 and 4.

Responsibilities:

• Make recommendations for curricular content revisions annually.

• Assess common curricular content accessibility (e.g., patient encounters, required texts and modules, streaming video lectures, web-based clinical cases, etc.)

• Identify appropriate content for Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA)

• Develop case content collaboratively with team members in the Office of Medical Education

• Make recommendations for revisions to case content based on annual revisions to curricular content

• Develop necessary assessment forms (e.g. rotations, didactics, etc.)

• Provide oversight for annual modification and implementation of required rotation curriculum initiatives.

• Collaborate with appropriate faculty development personnel and facilitate discipline-specific faculty development related to teaching and student assessment throughout the required rotations and for CSAs

• Chair and/or participate in all clinical education-specific Discipline Coordinator meetings

• Participate in appropriate Office of Medical Education meetings

• Participate in annual OME retreat and communicate proceedings to the Discipline Coordinator

• Communicate with Course Director for concerns arising from the Discipline Coordinator(s), student(s), faculty, teaching sites, etc.

• Collaborate with other Discipline Directors 

• Gather discipline-specific information from Discipline Coordinators as needed

• Obtain Discipline Coordinator feedback/input and communicate to Office of Medical Education 

Qualifications:

• Must have an earned Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or Medical Doctor (MD) degree

• Must be residency-trained

• Must hold ABMS or AOA Board Certifications appropriate to internal medicine discipline

• Must hold an active medical license issued by the State of Ohio Medical Board

• Must have a minimum of 3 years clinical practice experience

• Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience developing, evaluating, and/or delivering medical school curriculum

• *Preference give to osteopathic physicians

• *Preference given to candidates also holding an earned Master of Health Education or Educational Leadership degree
