Budget Deliberations Continue

[June 28, 2019]

Legislative leaders continue working out their differences to enact a state budget. Reps. Scott Oeslager (R-Canton), Jim Butler (R-Oakwood) and Jack Cera (D-Bellaire) represent the House. On the Senate side, it’s Sens. Matt Dolan (R-Cleveland), Dave Burke (R-Marysville), and Sean O’Brien (D-Bazetta Township).

Officials said differences between the House and Senate versions total more than 590, though many are minor. But a major sticking point is likely between the Senate’s proposed 8 percent personal income tax cut and the House’s proposed cut of 6.6 percent. Speaker of the House Larry Householder (R-Glenford) said House lawmakers also don’t agree with changes the Senate made to health care and school funding.

Conference Committee members got good news earlier this week. The Office of Budget and Management revised its tax revenue prediction for the current fiscal year, increasing projections by $359 million.
